The Latvian National Library Project will allow everybody of Latvia to enjoy the opportunities offered by a modern library. At the conclusion of the L.N.L. Project, all of Latvia’s public libraries will be joined in a unified information network. Each library will be equipped with at least five computer work stations. Users will be able to order and receive books at any public library in Latvia. The search for information will be facilitated by quality computer equipment and well-trained, professional library staff.

For this very reason, the L.N.L. Project has received the support of the UNESCO General Conference. For this very reason, Latvia’s Saeima has expressed its willingness to actualize this Project and has passed a law for its implementation. For this reason, the Project’s Supervisory Council, provided for in the law, has accepted the project schedule for this year and next year and allocated the necessary financing. For this very reason, the Latvian National Library Foundation asks all the citizens of Latvia and other countries, and particularly companies and business owners, to participate in the implementation of this project!

The Latvian National Library’s new building will confirm that our nation gives first priority to education and culture. Now you, too, can help actualize the dream of the Castle of Light – a center of knowledge and culture that will rise up on the shores of the Daugava River.
